Nilabh is currently in his fifth year (tenth semester) at GLC, Mumbai. He hails from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and is a dedicated and hardworking IDIA Scholar. Academically inclined from a young age, he achieved a perfect CGPA of 10 in his 10th standard examinations. His mother, a school teacher, lost her job during the pandemic, adding to the family’s financial struggles, while his father continues to work as a farmer.
Nilabh’s interest in law was sparked when he accompanied his family to a civil court for a property dispute matter. Witnessing the legal process firsthand, he realized the importance of legal education and the need for greater awareness about legal rights and laws. His deep understanding of social prejudices further strengthened his resolve to pursue law—not just to empower himself, but to work for the betterment of society.
However, financial constraints threatened to derail his aspirations. His family’s income was insufficient to support the cost of legal education. It was during this time that an IDIA Trainee introduced him to IDIA and explained the opportunities available in the legal field, life at NLUs, and the law entrance exams such as CLAT.
This conversation proved to be life-changing, leading Nilabh to connect with the IDIA Bihar Chapter. Recognizing his potential, IDIA selected him as a Trainee and provided him with comprehensive support, including mock tests, training materials, coaching classes, financial assistance, and personalized mentorship.
Despite these resources, Nilabh’s preparation for law entrance exams was fraught with challenges. His family’s financial struggles worsened during the lockdown, making it even harder to focus on studies. However, he remained determined and resilient, pushing himself to improve his mock test scores and refine his legal aptitude. He credits his perseverance to his mother’s unwavering support and sacrifices, which kept him motivated throughout the journey. Ultimately, his hard work paid off, and he secured admission to a prestigious law college.
At Government Law College, Mumbai, Nilabh has continued to excel, both academically and beyond. He won Vakalat 2023, a prestigious Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition, showcasing his strong legal acumen and advocacy skills. Additionally, he has undertaken internships at AZB & Partners, Delhi, and SAM & Co., Mumbai, TT&A Delhi, gaining hands-on experience in the corporate legal sector.
Nilabh has also been an active leader within his law school and IDIA. He was selected as Joint General Secretary of the Legal Aid Committee of Government Law College, Mumbai (2023-24), where he played a key role in promoting legal awareness and aid initiatives. Further, he served as Team Leader of the IDIA Mumbai Chapter, continuing his commitment to making legal education accessible to underprivileged students.
Beyond academics and leadership roles, Nilabh is deeply committed to social service. He is a regular blood donor, having donated blood five times—a testament to his dedication to giving back to society.
Apart from law, Nilabh enjoys playing badminton and cooking, reflecting his well-rounded personality. Looking ahead, he aspires to litigate, using his legal knowledge to drive meaningful change and advocate for justice.
