Department of Law (Hazra Campus), Calcutta University
Sakshi is from a remote village called Sikandrabad, located approximately 15 kilometers from Bhopal, the nearest city to the village. She studied at a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Ratibad, a nearby village. She lives with her father and siblings. Sakshi’s mother passed away in 2013. Her father owns an atta chakki (a machine for grinding flour) and is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Sakshi wishes to pursue law as it will allow her to work for people. According to her – “Sensitising about rights will go a long way in ensuring justice. Getting justice should never be based on money but must be available to all irrespective of being rich or poor”.
Sakshi came to know of IDIA from a sensitisation session carried out by the IDIA Madhya Pradesh Chapter in her school. She cleared the IDIA National Aptitude Test, attended the interview, and got selected as an IDIA trainee. IDIA volunteers tutored her at her school and online. Later, she was also enrolled with our training partner LegalEdge through IDIA.
Sakshi is a hardworking student. During the preparation, her daily routine started with exercise and meditation in the morning. She attempted the mock papers daily. When she had doubts about a subject, she would get in touch with her subject mentors. At the end of the week, she revised her studies.
Sakshi gives credit of her success to all her IDIA mentors who helped her prepare for the law entrance examinations. According to her – “[IDIA] Mentors stood beside me in all situations, constantly urging me to make the best use of my time.”
Sakshi has always had a keen interest in theatre and dance and actively participated in various extra-curricular activities in her school. She coordinated the cultural and sports events at her school. She performed at a national-level theatre fest in Odisha. Sakshi learns Judo and has taken part in regional judo competitions. She is a talented leader, and we are confident that her leadership qualities will help in her legal journey.
Sakshi is also an avid reader and debater. She has taken part in various debates and elocution competitions. She looks forward to participating in law school moot competitions, debates, etc. We hope to continue seeing her improve her skills and work hard to fulfil her dream to make a difference in society.
