Sakshi Chouksey

Department of Law (Hazra Campus), Calcutta University

Sakshi hails from Sikandrabad, a remote village located about 15 kilometers from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. She studied at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Ratibad, a nearby village known for nurturing bright students from rural areas. After losing her mother in 2013, Sakshi was raised by her father, who owns an atta chakki and is the sole breadwinner for the family. She lives with her father and siblings, drawing strength from their shared resilience.

Sakshi’s motivation to pursue law comes from her strong belief in justice and equality. In her words, “Sensitising about rights will go a long way in ensuring justice. Getting justice should never be based on money but must be available to all irrespective of being rich or poor.” Her journey into legal education began when she was introduced to IDIA during a sensitisation session conducted by the IDIA Madhya Pradesh Chapter at her school. After clearing the IDIA National Aptitude Test and attending an interview, she was selected as an IDIA trainee.

Her preparation for law school was rigorous and filled with determination. IDIA volunteers mentored her both at school and online. She was later enrolled with IDIA’s training partner, LegalEdge. Sakshi maintained a disciplined routine that included morning exercise, meditation, daily mock tests, regular subject revisions, and constant engagement with her mentors to clarify doubts. She attributes her success to her mentors, stating, “IDIA mentors stood beside me in all situations, constantly urging me to make the best use of my time.”

Sakshi is a dynamic individual with a wide range of talents. She has always had a keen interest in theatre and dance and was actively involved in extracurricular activities at her school. She coordinated various cultural and sports events and even performed at a national level theatre fest in Odisha. A Judo enthusiast, she has competed in regional Judo tournaments. Her leadership qualities shine through in everything she undertakes, from academics to arts and sports.

She is also an avid reader and a skilled debater, having participated in multiple debates and elocution contests. In law school, she continues to shine — winning the IDIA Blog Writing Competition in April 2022 and the Intra Departmental Debate Competition in December 2023. Now in her fifth year at (9th semester) Law school, she remains focused on developing her skills further and contributing meaningfully to society.

Sakshi has also gained considerable practical experience through a wide range of internships:
