Darpan Gangwar

National Law University, Jodhpur

Darpan lives in Nawabganj, a small village in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to an OBC community. His father is a farmer while his mother is an ASHA worker. He has an older brother who is in college.

He faced many hurdles when a small ear infection led to a permanent hearing disability when COVID was in full swing.

Watching the live streaming of court proceedings became a turning point in his life. He became fascinated by courtroom happenings and understood the power of law. He also watched Jai Bhim, a movie which further cemented his interest in law. He had learnt from school about the role of lawyers in ensuring India’s independence. So, when he had to choose a career, he knew that it was undoubtedly law.

He graduated from school in 2022 but skipped CLAT since he couldn’t afford the coaching fees. However, for the CLAT 2023, he decided to try with all his might by himself. He obtained free materials available on online platforms, prepared a strategy on his own, and then gave the exam.

Soon after clearing CLAT, he started searching for scholarship opportunities and came across IDIA. He got in touch with us through email and was enrolled as an IDIA Scholar.

Darpan also likes sports. In his free time, he plays football and badminton. Darpan has a deep interest in international affairs. He is inspired by a quote from Booker T. Washington, – “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” Darpan wishes to be a lawyer and later become a judge. He wants to give back to his society in any way he can.
