In the quiet village of Raghopur Bihta in remote Patna, Bihar, Shivam Sharma’s life story is a testament to overcoming adversity and pursuing dreams against all odds. His family, consisting of his mother, father, grandmother, and elder sister, faced a tragic loss in 2006 with the demise of their elder brother. In the aftermath, his father’s decision to relocate to Patna marked a fresh start, only to be disrupted by a life-altering accident in 2008 that left his father severely disabled.
To meet the financial demands of the extensive medical treatment, the family had to sell ancestral land, further complicating their already challenging circumstances. Shivam, navigating through this hardship, completed his 10th and 12th education from the Bihar State Board in Hindi Medium. His aspiration to pursue law introduced a new set of challenges, especially in overcoming language barriers during CLAT preparation.
Enter IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access), a beacon of support providing mentorship, mock tests, and assistance with AILET form submission. With gratitude to Mukesh Sir, Head of the Bihar Chapter, and mentor Aditya Sir from CNLU Patna, Shivam successfully secured admission to Chanakya National Law University in Patna, where he is currently pursuing BA.LLB Hons.
Shivam is an active and well-rounded law student at CNLU, balancing academics, mooting, sports, and leadership roles. As a member of both the Moot Court Committee (2024-25) and the Sports Committee (2023-Present), he has demonstrated strong organizational and advocacy skills. He gained practical legal experience through a judicial internship under Justice Harish Kumar at the Patna High Court and an internship with the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority. His co-curricular engagements include participation in moot court and mediation competitions, along with excelling in entrepreneurship events like VYAPAAR: The Ultimate Pitch Battle. A passionate sportsman, he has played professional U16 cricket for Haryana, led his team to victory in multiple tournaments, and captained the winning team in the CNLU Inter-Batch Cricket Tournament. His ability to excel in both legal and sporting arenas highlights his leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. Additionally, he channels his creativity into making YouTube videos.
While Shivam’s long-term goals are still taking shape, his overarching aim remains clear — to uplift his family’s lifestyle, sparing them from further sacrifices and providing a brighter future. In every step of his remarkable journey, Shivam exemplifies resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education.
