Somil hails from Poorakalan, a small village in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. As the eldest of three siblings, he grew up understanding responsibility from an early age. His father works both as a farmer and a worker at the local gram panchayat to support the family, while his mother manages the household. Despite financial challenges, Somil remained deeply committed to his education and consistently worked hard to achieve his goals.
His academic excellence earned him admission to VidyaGyan School, Bulandshahr, a residential institution supported by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. There, Somil flourished in a highly competitive environment, consistently ranking among the top students. He secured an impressive 96.6% in Class 10 and later scored 90% in Class 12 in the PCM stream.
His interest in innovation and entrepreneurship led him to participate in several pitch competitions, where he earned multiple first and second-place finishes. These experiences helped shape his confidence and broaden his perspective on creating meaningful impact.
During his higher secondary education, Somil developed a strong interest in the intersection of technology and law. Fascinated by the potential of law to drive structural change in society, he decided to pursue legal education and began preparing for CLAT. With support from his school, he enrolled in an online coaching program and worked diligently toward his goal.
Although he successfully secured admission to National Law University, Jodhpur, the high cost of legal education posed a significant challenge for his family. At this crucial stage, his mentor introduced him to IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education). Through financial assistance, mentorship, and constant support, IDIA enabled Somil to pursue his dream without the burden of financial uncertainty.
Today, Somil looks forward to making the most of his opportunities at NLU Jodhpur. With a strong academic foundation, a passion for learning, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society, he hopes to build a future where technology and law can work together to create positive change. His journey is a testament to perseverance, opportunity, and the transformative power of education.
