Linklaters, one of the leading law firms worldwide, has come forward to support IDIA Charitable Trust (IDIA) and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IDIA. Linklaters will be supporting the Training and Materials vertical of IDIA for three years.
IDIA is a pan-India movement to train underprivileged students and help transform them into leading lawyers and community advocates. IDIA is premised on the notion that access to premier legal education empowers marginalized communities and helps them help themselves. IDIA selects and trains students from underprivileged backgrounds (IDIA Trainees) to crack top law entrance examinations in India. Once they are admitted to top law colleges, it provides a scholarship to these students (IDIA Scholars) that comprises of financial support, trainings and mentorship among other things.
The Training and Materials vertical (T&M) of IDIA supports State teams by providing quality training and materials for IDIA Trainees who are preparing to crack law entrance examinations. Secondly, it analyses the performance of the IDIA Trainees and provides them with training materials that are tailored to their needs. It also contributes towards IDIA’s general research needs.
The team is undergoing rapid expansion especially through using online tools for training. A number of student volunteers from law colleges across India are part of the team. With the help of Linklaters, it would be able to explore new avenues that are crucial for success of IDIA.
Sushil Jacob, Partner at Linklaters, says – “At Linklaters, we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. We firmly believe that diversity and inclusion at the workplace promotes innovation and helps us reach our full potential. We are excited at this opportunity to contribute towards the legal sector and legal education through our collaboration with IDIA. We hope to see a more accessible and inclusive legal industry.”
Linklaters would also be considering other avenues of support such as internships and job opportunities for IDIA Scholars.
