Biswajit Shil is presently pursuing his studies from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS). He hails from the South Dinajpur district of West Bengal. His father is a farmer and a small businessman and his mother is a housewife. He also has 2 other brothers, one of whom is visually impaired like him. He has a sister as well.
He pursued his schooling from Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys Academy in Kolkata. It is here that he learned to socialize, to overcome his disability, to adjust with other people and to present himself in front of the society. Biswajit was chosen as an IDIA Trainee during his schooling there. Biswajit is shy yet determined to overcome the challenges posed by the society due to his disability. Presently, he is struggling to pick up the English language as he completed his schooling in Bengali Medium which has in turn affected his project submissions and studies. Biswajit’s knowledge of computers is also very low and thus he finds it hard to access online databases. However, he is determined overcome these hardships.
In his free time, Biswajit loves to play the violin and to read novels. He had the following to say about the law school and way ahead: “After the classes, if I feel any difficulties, IDIA volunteers are eager to help me as much as they can. After coming to the law school my confidence level has increased a lot. I hope that I can improve myself and I will be able to reach my goals in life of becoming a good lawyer and most importantly, a good human being.”
