Sonia grew up in the Jacobite Christian community from the North Paravur locality in Ernakulam district, in Kerala. Sonia’s father works in a company in the Middle East. He earned Rs. 7,000 – 10,000 per month which went towards the care of his family including his wife, a homemaker, and Sonia’s younger sister Sona, who was studying in the 10th standard.
Throughout her entire educational career, Sonia has excelled academically. In her 7th grade, she was the recipient of a pre-matric scholarship from her state. She then went on to receive nearly perfect grades throughout secondary and senior secondary school. Sonia followed up an A+ in all subjects in 10th standard, with a 99% in 11th standard, and a 94.33% in her 12th Kerala Board examinations. Her performance streak has continued even in her university, where she was among the top 10 ranked students in her batch in the first year.
Sonia’s skills are not exclusive to the classroom. She is a talented speaker who has a shelf at home dedicated solely to her trophies and medals from the various oratory competitions she has won. In her free time, Sonia loves to practice Karate and even has a blue belt in karate. As a volunteer with the IDIA Bhopal Chapter, Sonia has been involved in the training of students of Classes 11th and 12th from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for CLAT. She is also a part of Manthan, a NLIU student-run cell that organises discussions on various current issues.
Sonia dreams of studying law because she is committed to helping her community, and knows it will give her the skills to do so. Sonia gained admission to the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, where she is studying now.
