Ashok Sagar

National Law University, Jodhpur

Ashok’s father is a farmer and his mother is a housewife. They live in a small village called Chirdhani in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. In his village, there was no access to quality education, no work and little resources. Due to the dependence on seasonal rain, agriculture was hardly sustainable, but farming was the only work available in his village for earning a living.

Ashok studied in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Boys Residential School Mandore, Jodhpur. He was a sincere student and it was when he was in twelfth standard, that a team of IDIA had come to his school and spoke about IDIA. He was selected after an aptitude test and an interview conducted by IDIA. During his school life, Ashok always thought that the people from financially weaker backgrounds had no right to dream but when he got in touch with IDIA, he realized that they can also dream and make them come true.

It is Ashok’s opinion that we have been granted fundamental rights by the Constitution of India, but the rural parts of India are bereft of this knowledge, which leads to corruption, casteism, discrimination, etc. The people cannot raise their voice against these problems because they do not know their rights. They have a lack of knowledge and a lack of financial resources. Ashok decided to pursue a legal education as his aim is to make legal aid accessible in an easier manner, in the whole of India. He wishes that every person should have basic knowledge of their rights and law.

Ashok has loved every minute of law school so far, thank to really co-operative friends, generous teachers, useful internet, a lot of books and a lot of opportunities. Ashok is a hardworking and dedicated student overall and is excited for his journey forward.
