Intisar Alam

Nat’nl Univ. of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi

Intisar, a resident of Lucknow, is a bright and hardworking IDIA Scholar who has faced many difficult circumstances in his life. His father passed away due to a brain hemorrhage in 2010, and just a year later, his mother too passed away after battling blood cancer. He lives with his elder sister, who has earned a master’s degree, and his maternal aunt. The only source of income for the family was the pension received by his aunt on his behalf, which amounted to Rs. 16,000 a month.

Intisar is a determined individual who considers difficulties and barriers as challenges. His resilience is evident from his stellar performances in the 10th and 12th ISCE and ISC board examinations. Despite all odds, he scored 89.8% in the 10th standard and 95.5% in the 12th standard while pursuing the science stream. He also headed the students’ council in his school and actively participated in sports.

He came to know about IDIA through his neighbour, who studied at GNLU. He got in touch with the IDIA Uttar Pradesh Chapter and was selected as an IDIA Trainee. With IDIA’s support, he started his law journey at NUSRL Ranchi.

Intisar has consistently excelled both academically and in co-curricular activities during law school. Under the IDIA–A&O Shearman collaboration, he was selected for an internship with A&O Shearman (previously Allen & Overy), the world’s third-largest law firm. He has also interned with Tier-1 firms such as Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (where he has secured a pre-placement offer and is set to join in 2026), Trilegal, and AZB & Partners. Additionally, he has worked as a research assistant with renowned professors at National University of Singapore, Queen Mary University of London, and City University of Hong Kong. His research has also led to publications in prestigious national and international journals.

In addition, Intisar has also achieved several notable milestones. He, along with his teammate, won the 5th Surana & Surana RGNUL Arbitral Award Writing Competition. More recently, in January 2025, his team won the CTIL DSNLU MCIA Vis Pre-Moot held in Visakhapatnam. His team was also a Round of 32 Finalist for Best Oral Team at the APAC–BICAM Vis Pre-Moot held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. At the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2025 in Hong Kong, his team earned the Honourable Mention for the Fali Nariman Award for Best Memorandum for Respondent. Furthermore, Intisar and his team became Quarter Finalists at the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2025, being one of only two Indian teams to reach that stage this year.

Recently, Intisar secured a PPO from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, one of the leading law firms in India where he will be joining the Disputes team in 2026 post his graduation from law school. Intisar is one of those testaments who broke his constraints and was able to fulfill his dream of pursuing law due to his commitment and hard work.
