Hailing from Sitamarhi district in Bihar, Shivam Kumar’s journey is a testament to his unwavering determination, his family’s support, and his aspiration to bring about social justice through the field of law. Born into an economically weaker section, Shivam’s parents instilled in him the values of hard work and empathy from an early age.
Shivam’s inspiration to pursue law emerged from his observations of societal injustice during his childhood. Witnessing people seeking his father’s legal aid, who were often oppressed and voiceless, fueled his determination to make a difference. He envisioned a future where he could empower those who lacked resources and were marginalized by the legal system.
His journey took a significant turn when he gained admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya through a highly competitive entrance exam. Recognizing the transformative impact of education, Shivam not only excelled academically but also encouraged his younger sister to follow in his footsteps, providing her with the opportunity to attend Navodaya as well.
Despite financial constraints, Shivam’s determination led him to learn about the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) – a gateway to realizing his dreams. The financial burden, however, seemed insurmountable. Fortunately, the Navodaya alumni organization provided him with the coaching he needed. Yet, the challenge of funding his college education loomed large until the introduction of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) into his life.
IDIA became Shivam’s guiding light, helping him navigate the path to law school. Through their mentorship program, he channeled his passion and determination into focused preparation, achieving an excellent CLAT score. With the aid of IDIA’s support, Shivam secured admission to a top law college, granting him the wings to pursue his dreams.
Shivam is acutely aware of his responsibility toward society. Coming from an economically disadvantaged background, he is committed to ensuring that education is not curtailed due to financial constraints. His determination to bridge the gap between justice and those who need it the most, combined with his gratitude towards IDIA, fuels his resolve to transform the lives of those less fortunate.
