Abhishek Kumar, a second-year BBA LLB student at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, hails from Raypur Bandhawa, a small village in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. Coming from a humble background, his father is an agriculturist and the sole breadwinner of the family, while his mother is a homemaker.
Abhishek completed his 10th standard from Daksh Public School and pursued his higher secondary education from M.S.R D.D. College, Deokund. His interest in law began in childhood when he noticed the respect people from the legal profession commanded during his visits to his maternal home.
In 2018, his maternal uncle took him to the Ranchi High Court, an experience that deeply inspired him to pursue law as a way of creating meaningful impact in society
However, the journey was far from easy. Growing up in an underdeveloped region with little access to resources, he faced immense challenges while preparing for CLAT. English newspapers were unavailable in his area, and coming from a Hindi-medium background, the English-heavy CLAT exam felt daunting. With limited means, he began preparing by reading news on his mobile phone, using Telegram channels, and attempting pirated mock tests. At one point, he almost gave up—but learning about IDIA turned things around.
After reaching out to Abhishek Verma, Director of the IDIA Bihar- Jharkhand Chapter, he found renewed courage and structured guidance. Abhishek recalls how Verma Sir’s constant mentorship—even answering his late-night doubts—helped him believe in himself again. With IDIA’s support, he overcame the odds and secured admission at CNLU.
Today, Abhishek aspires to work for the upliftment of marginalized communities, especially in underdeveloped areas like his own, where many people are still unaware of their basic rights. He also dreams of giving back to IDIA by mentoring future scholars. Beyond academics, Abhishek is deeply interested in geopolitics, startups, law, reading, and writing, and envisions using his legal education to create meaningful change in society.
