Aishwarik Mandal (WBNUJS, West Bengal)

Aishwarik, a brilliant and determined student from South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, represents the transformative power of education, resilience, and family support. Originally from the village of Senera in Purulia district, Aishwarik spent much of his early life in the suburban area of Tentulberia near Kolkata. His father, an advocate, and his mother, a homemaker, faced considerable financial challenges but made the life changing decision to enroll him at the Assembly of God Church School, recognizing the importance of quality education in shaping his future.

Aishwarik understood the sacrifices his parents made and committed himself to academic excellence. He performed well in school, actively participated in extracurricular activities, and developed a strong passion for debating, which eventually steered him towards a career in law. Although he initially prepared for NEET and faced a setback in 2023, his curiosity was reignited when he came across the introduction of three new criminal law bills in Parliament. This pivotal moment sparked a deep interest in the legal system and set him on a new path.

Driven by this newfound purpose, Aishwarik secured the 10th rank in the Calcutta University Law Entrance Exam and joined Hazra Law College. Alongside his college studies and despite financial limitations, he prepared for the CLAT exam through self study and achieved an impressive All India Rank of 1021 in CLAT 2024. The dream of studying at a top National Law University, however, was once again threatened by the high cost of tuition.

That was when a mutual friend connected Aishwarik to IDIA. Understanding his situation, IDIA welcomed him into their fold and provided the support he needed. With their help, Aishwarik secured admission to the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, one of the top ranked law universities in India.

Currently in his 2nd year at WBNUJS, Aishwarik is already making his mark. He was selected to represent the university at the RMLNLU International Arbitration Moot Court Competition, taking on the role of researcher. His team successfully cleared the memo qualification round, and he was one of only two first-year students selected for a senior role in a national moot through the highly competitive internal selection rounds.

Aishwarik has also started building his legal experience. In May 2025, he completed his first legal internship at Chambers of Advocate Rohit Das, Calcutta High Court and in June 2025 did an internship under Prof. Faisal Faish, Assistant Professor, National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata

Aishwarik’s journey from a modest background to one of the country’s premier law schools stands as a testament to perseverance, self belief, and the right support at the right time. As he continues his legal education, he remains committed to using his skills to create impact and uplift others, proving that no dream is too distant when driven by passion and purpose.
