Sachin, an IDIA Scholar from the 2022 batch, is currently in his fourth year at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. His journey is a testament to resilience, clarity of purpose, and the transformative power of opportunity the very values that IDIA seeks to nurture.
Sachin hails from Udaipur, Rajasthan. His father runs a small printing shop in the city, while his mother is a homemaker. His elder brother is pursuing engineering. Sachin’s interest in the law is deeply personal. At the age of 13, he lost his vision due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare retinal disorder. When he sought admission to a new school after the 10th standard, he was denied because of his disability. Refusing to accept discrimination, Sachin asserted his rights under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, with support from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Eyeway, and Support Foundation. This experience, though challenging, shaped his resolve and drew him towards the study of law.
Growing up, Sachin often encountered ableist assumptions about what his future could or should look like. But he chose not to let societal perceptions decide the limits of his ambition. His family’s unwavering support, coupled with his own conviction, pushed him forward. Education at a premier National Law University seemed financially impossible, until he met IDIA volunteers during a sensitization session at his school. The mentorship, training, and comprehensive support he received helped him clear CLAT 2022 with an impressive All India PWD Rank 18, turning a distant dream into reality.
At NALSAR, Sachin has established himself as a thoughtful, diligent, and engaged student. He is an active member of the Disability Alliance Group, led by Professor Amita Dhanda, where he contributes to drafting a disability policy for the university. Over time, his academic interests have evolved, and he is now particularly drawn to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), constitutional law, and technology-driven legal frameworks.
His professional experiences reflect this growth. Sachin recently interned with the digital and data privacy team of Hindustan Unilever Limited, gaining valuable insight into the intersections of law, business, and emerging technologies. He further strengthened his interest in IPR during his internship at Fidus Law Chambers, Noida, where he worked closely on matters that deepened his understanding of the field’s intricacies. He also recently interned at Avery Dennison, where he did research in the new labour codes.
Outside academics, Sachin remains curious and vibrant. He enjoys chess, tandem cycling, quizzes, and stand-up comedy, pursuits that reflect both his spirited personality and his ability to embrace life beyond challenges.
Sachin’s journey from Udaipur to NALSAR, and now toward a promising legal future, is not just a story of overcoming adversity. It is a reminder of what becomes possible when determination meets guidance, and when potential is given the space to shine.
