Shivam Kumar, hailing from the Sitamarhi district in Bihar, embodies resilience, vision, and a deep-rooted commitment to social justice. Born into an economically weaker section, Shivam grew up with the values of hard work and empathy instilled in him by his parents. His inspiration to study law came early, shaped by witnessing people from his community turn to his father for legal guidance. Observing the struggles of those silenced by poverty and discrimination, Shivam dreamed of becoming a voice for the voiceless.

His academic journey took a significant leap when he cleared the highly competitive entrance examination for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Recognizing the power of education, he not only excelled academically but also motivated his younger sister to pursue the same path. Shivam’s dedication was unwavering, even in the face of financial hardship. When he learned about the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), it seemed like a distant goal due to the costs involved. However, support from the Navodaya alumni network helped him access coaching, while the burden of law school expenses remained uncertain.

That was when IDIA entered his life. Through IDIA’s mentorship and support, Shivam focused his preparation and secured an excellent CLAT score. With IDIA’s assistance, he gained admission into a top law school, transforming his dream into reality.

Currently in his third year of law school, Shivam continues to shine. In his third semester, he secured the third-highest marks in Constitutional Law in his batch. His academic achievements earned him a position as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Research and Studies in Land, Mining and Real Estate Laws (CRSLMREL) at NUJS.

Shivam has also gained valuable professional experience through internships. In May 2024, he interned at the National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, Delhi, where he deepened his understanding of environmental justice. In October 2024, he interned under Vikramjit Banerjee, Additional Solicitor General of India, Delhi, In May 2025, he interned Senior Advocate KTS Tulsi  in Delhi  and in June 2025, he did and internship at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Mumbai,   further expanding his exposure to constitutional and public law.

Despite all odds, Shivam remains grounded and committed to his mission. He is determined to ensure that education and justice reach those who need it most. With a heart full of gratitude and a vision for an equitable society, Shivam is using the law not just as a profession but as a powerful tool to uplift others.
