Golla Madhu (NUALS, Kochi)

Golla Madhu, a young and determined individual from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, has never let his visual impairment define his limitations. Born completely blind, Madhu’s journey is one of perseverance, resilience, and an unyielding desire to overcome the odds stacked against him. His family moved to Hyderabad to provide him with better educational opportunities, and Madhu’s academic journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Attending a specially-abled school until the 10th grade, he excelled in his studies, scoring a perfect 10 CGPA. Determined to push himself further, Madhu transitioned to a regular school for his higher secondary education, where he achieved an impressive 91.8% in the Commerce stream.

Madhu’s aspiration to study law ignited while he was still in the 10th grade. He began preparing for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and initially sought guidance from the IDIA Hyderabad chapter in 2022. However, feeling demotivated by the lengthy intake process, Madhu decided to continue his preparation independently, relying on Telegram materials and online videos.

Despite facing significant challenges, including difficulties in securing an education loan and issues with fee submission, Madhu’s determination never wavered. His passion for law is deeply rooted in his belief that legal knowledge will empower him to uplift himself and protect his dignity as a person with a disability. Confident and articulate, Madhu has been involved in debating from an early age, a skill that will undoubtedly serve him well in his legal studies.

Madhu currently lives in a rented one-room house in Hyderabad with his family. His father, a daily laborer, and his mother, a domestic helper, work tirelessly to support the family, which includes Madhu’s younger brother, who is in the 10th grade. Despite the financial hardships, with a combined monthly income of approximately ₹30,000, Madhu remains resolute in his pursuit of a legal education. Although he faced setbacks, including missing the deadline to secure his place at an NLU, Madhu’s journey is far from over. His story is one of grit, determination, and an unwavering belief that education—especially in the field of law—will be the key to transforming his life and the society around him.
