Beneeta graduated in 2023 from Sikkim Government Law College, Lower Burtuk, Gangtok. Her decision to pursue law was inspired by a personal experience during her school years, when a close friend became a victim in a POCSO case. Witnessing her friend’s family struggle to understand their legal rights made her realize that many people are denied justice because they lack legal awareness and access to legal assistance.
Her commitment to community service began through her active participation in the Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps (NCC), and National Service Scheme (NSS). These experiences instilled in her discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of social responsibility while exposing her to the needs of local communities.
During law college, she joined the Pro Bono Club and took part in legal awareness programmes conducted in schools and communities. Through these initiatives, she observed that many vulnerable individuals were unfamiliar with their legal rights and often hesitated to seek justice because they found the legal system difficult to understand.
As a first-generation law graduate, Beneeta pursued her legal education despite limited resources and opportunities. These challenges strengthened her determination to make the most of every opportunity and reinforced her commitment to using the law as a means of serving society.
Her interest in the IDIA Litigation Fellowship is driven by its mission of promoting access to justice and nurturing socially committed young lawyers. She hopes to strengthen her practical skills in legal research, drafting, advocacy, and litigation while learning under experienced mentors.
In the long term, Beneeta aspires to build a legal career dedicated to public service and the empowerment of marginalized communities. She hopes to contribute to legal aid, community outreach, and legal awareness initiatives so that more people are able to understand their rights and access justice with dignity and confidence.
