Smrithi Krishna M. R. is a young advocate from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, whose journey into the legal profession has been shaped by resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Raised in a modest family, she witnessed firsthand the financial hardships and social inequalities that often deprive ordinary people of meaningful access to the law. Rather than allowing these challenges to define her, she transformed them into the driving force behind her pursuit of a legal career.
She completed her schooling and higher secondary education at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kilimanoor. While studying in Class VIII, she joined the Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme and participated in its State Camp. The exposure to leadership, discipline, and social responsibility during this period sparked her interest in the legal profession and inspired her to dream of becoming a lawyer.
Determined to turn that dream into reality, Smrithi prepared for the Kerala Law Entrance Examination (KLEE) through self-study and secured admission to the B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programme at Mount Zion Law College, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. After completing her degree, she enrolled with the Bar Council of Kerala and successfully cleared the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Beginning her career in litigation as a young woman required courage, perseverance, and the determination to overcome every challenge.
Smrithi is currently practising as a Junior Advocate at the Attingal Court Complex in Thiruvananthapuram district and is a member of the Attingal Bar Association. Through her litigation practice, she has been actively involved in handling civil, criminal, family, and constitutional law matters under the guidance of her senior, gaining valuable courtroom experience and strengthening her commitment to serving those who lack effective legal representation.
She was introduced to the IDIA Litigation Fellowship by her senior advocate. Recognising it as an opportunity to strengthen her advocacy skills while contributing to the cause of equal access to justice, she applied and was selected for the fellowship. Smrithi hopes to use this platform to grow into a fearless litigator who empowers marginalized communities, champions constitutional values, and inspires more young women to believe that determination and perseverance can become powerful instruments of social change.
