Adv. Ashwanth Padman is a young advocate practicing in Kasaragod, Kerala. He completed his LL.B. from Al-Azhar Law College, Thodupuzha, where he developed a strong interest in litigation and criminal law. Motivated to deepen his understanding of the criminal justice system, he went on to pursue an LL.M. in Criminal Law from Amity University. His postgraduate dissertation, titled “Mental Health Assessment in Criminal Sentencing: A Critical Study,”reflects his interest in the intersection of criminal justice, mental health, and human rights.
Growing up in Kasaragod, Ashwanth witnessed how many individuals, particularly those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, struggle to access quality legal representation. These experiences strengthened his belief that the legal profession is not merely about resolving disputes but about ensuring that justice remains accessible to everyone, irrespective of their social or financial circumstances. This conviction inspired him to pursue litigation as a career.
Currently practicing before the courts in Kasaragod, Ashwanth has developed a keen interest in criminal litigation and trial advocacy. He believes that effective legal representation can significantly impact the lives of individuals and is committed to providing ethical, compassionate, and diligent legal assistance, especially to those who are underserved and marginalized.
Beyond the courtroom, Ashwanth enjoys legal research, reading, and cinema. He believes that continuous learning and a deeper understanding of society are essential qualities of an effective advocate and constantly strives to strengthen both his legal knowledge and practical skills.
Ashwanth’s journey reflects perseverance, dedication, and a genuine commitment to public service. Through the IDIA Litigation Fellowship, he hopes to enhance his trial advocacy skills, work closely with marginalized communities, and contribute meaningfully to IDIA’s mission of making quality legal representation accessible to those who need it the most.
