Nandana Sreekumar

Advocate Nandana Sreekumar is a first-generation lawyer from Changanacherry in Kerala’s Kottayam district, currently practising before the District Court, Kottayam. Raised by her mother alongside her brother after losing her father at the age of ten, her journey has been shaped by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

She completed her schooling at Cluny Senior Secondary School and her higher secondary education at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School. Through self-study and perseverance, and without any legal background in her family, she secured admission to the integrated B.A. LL.B. programme at Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. She enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Kerala in October 2025.

Growing up, Nandana witnessed the barriers many ordinary people face in accessing justice. These experiences inspired her to pursue law as a means of creating meaningful social impact. She believes the legal profession extends beyond litigation to protecting rights, promoting equality, and ensuring justice is accessible to all.

Nandana learnt about the IDIA Fellowship through fellows from an earlier programme. She sees the fellowship as an opportunity to work closely with underprivileged and marginalized communities, spread legal awareness, and empower individuals with knowledge of their rights. She hopes to bridge the gap between law and society through community engagement and service.

Passionate about legal research and writing, Nandana is committed to lifelong learning, believing that studying law is an ongoing process that extends far beyond the classroom. She believes empathy, integrity, and service are the foundations of effective legal practice. Through the IDIA Fellowship, she aspires to strengthen access to justice and dedicate her career to empowering vulnerable communities through the transformative power of law.
