Pramat Chettri is a law graduate from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) University, Gangtok, Sikkim, where he completed his BBA–LLB in 2025. His journey into the legal profession began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel restrictions prevented him from pursuing his initial goal of studying Chartered Accountancy outside Sikkim. Determined to continue his education, he chose to pursue law at ICFAI University and successfully completed the programme while maintaining an academic scholarship through consistent performance. During law college, he developed a strong foundation in legal research, drafting, and pleading, actively participated in moot court competitions, and represented Sikkim at the National Moot Court Competition hosted by ICFAI University, Hyderabad. The experience motivated him to mentor junior students and contribute to strengthening his university’s moot court culture.
A defining moment in Pramat’s journey came shortly after graduation when his grandmother passed away just days before his university convocation. Remembering her wish that he become a lawyer who would serve those unable to afford legal assistance, he attended the convocation in her honour and was awarded the Silver Medal from his graduating batch. This experience reinforced his commitment to building a legal career rooted in compassion and public service. He now practices before the Namchi District Court, where he strives to make legal assistance more accessible to his community while continuing to uphold the values that inspired him to pursue law.
Through the IDIA Litigation Fellowship, Pramat hopes to strengthen his practical skills in litigation, advocacy, legal research, drafting, and courtroom practice under the guidance of experienced mentors. He also aims to contribute by promoting legal awareness, mentoring students from underprivileged backgrounds, and encouraging greater access to legal education through community outreach. In the long term, he envisions a legal career dedicated to legal aid, and mentorship, using the law as a means of empowering marginalized communities and creating greater access to justice across rural Sikkim.
