Vidhya Vijay is a junior advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Kerala and practices primarily in criminal and family law under the guidance of Adv. Soorandu S. Sreekumar at Sasthamcotta. A native of a village in Kollam district, she was raised by her single mother, whose resilience and determination have been a constant source of inspiration throughout her life.
A first-generation lawyer, Vidhya pursued her LL.B. at Government Law College, Kozhikode, after completing her undergraduate degree in Journalism from SDV College, Alappuzha. Her academic journey reflects her enduring commitment to understanding society, advocating for justice, and amplifying the voices of those who are often unheard.
Currently, Vidhya is a Fellow under the IDIA Litigation Fellowship, where she works closely with her mentor and gains practical experience in litigation through regular courtroom appearances, case preparation, legal research, and client interactions. The Fellowship has provided her with valuable mentorship and exposure during the formative years of her legal career.
Vidhya’s decision to pursue law was deeply influenced by her childhood experiences of witnessing how access to justice often depends on one’s financial resources or social standing. These experiences instilled in her a strong conviction that the law should serve as an instrument of empowerment for those who are marginalized and disadvantaged. She aspires to build a career dedicated to ensuring that legal knowledge and effective representation are accessible to individuals who need them the most, while contributing meaningfully to the pursuit of justice and the rule of law.
