Anmol Raj

National Law University, Jodhpur

Anmol Raj hails from Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh. His father works as a sweeper at the Gram Panchayat and supported their family of four with a monthly salary of about Rs. 32,000 when Anmol joined IDIA.

Life was not easy for Anmol. He was born with a defect in his left eye, due to which he had blurred vision since birth. In 2012, when he was 15 years old, Anmol suddenly lost vision in his right eye, which was his only functioning eye by then. Consequently, he had to drop out of his school when he was in the 10th standard to undergo a long and intensive medical treatment. Through the course of the next 5 years, Anmol was completely away from anything remotely related to academics and slowly started to lose the academic skill sets that he had acquired diligently by studying in his school.

After a frustrating five-year gap, he resumed his education in 2017, joining the MKSD Inter-college in Lucknow in the 9th standard. Anmol put in tremendous effort to make up for all the lost time and scored a whopping 83% in his 10th standard examinations. The stellar results encouraged Anmol to work even harder.

He dreamed of pursuing law due to the dynamism of the legal field. With no lawyers in his family or vicinity, his passion was further fuelled to pursue a unique career path. He learned about IDIA through one of its sensitisation sessions and, within weeks, was inducted into the training program, channelling all his efforts into preparing for CLAT. Managing his 12th-standard examinations alongside his preparation for law entrance exams was a tough task. However, his meticulous planning and hard work paid off when he passed his board exams with a good score and secured a seat at NLU Jodhpur.

Anmol’s determination and courage have stood the test of time, extending to his pursuit of practical experience during semester breaks. He secured an internship with the legal team at Hindustan Unilever Ltd., where the line manager and the head of the legal department were so impressed with his work that they offered him another internship. He also interned at Karanjawala & Co., gaining valuable insight into large-scale commercial litigation. At Fidus Law Chambers, he delved into intellectual property law, researching complex trademark issues and the impact of AI on IP rights. He continues to build on his practical skills and has secured an upcoming internship at the top-tier firm, Trilegal.
