Sumaiya Molla (WBNUJS, West Bengal)

Sumaiya Molla’s journey from the small village of Lalpur in Jaynagar, West Bengal, to one of the most prestigious law schools in the country is a powerful story of resilience, purpose, and the pursuit of justice. A graduate of Krishnachandrapur High School, Sumaiya initially explored several career paths, including commerce, in an effort to align with her parents’ aspirations. However, her growing awareness of social issues and her deep interest in logic and debate led her to discover her true calling in the field of law.

Financial constraints stood as a major barrier in her path. Still, with determination and resourcefulness, Sumaiya found an affordable coaching center in Kolkata named Diksha Learning Services Pvt Limited, where she trained for nearly six months. Her preparation was far from easy. She faced a lack of resources and even suffered from illness just before the CLAT 2023 examination. Though she initially believed she had not secured a seat, she later discovered she had earned a place at Jogesh Chandra Chaudhary Law College under Calcutta University through her domicile rank.

Witnessing systemic injustices, including the mistreatment of the poor by government officials and ongoing discrimination based on religion, caste, and class, strengthened Sumaiya’s resolve to study law. She dreams of becoming a voice for the marginalized, using the law as a tool to bring fairness and dignity to those who are often silenced.

Undeterred by setbacks, Sumaiya continued to pursue her goal with relentless dedication. She appeared again for CLAT and successfully secured admission to the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) after CLAT 2024, further proving her commitment to her dreams and to social justice.

Currently in her 2nd year at WBNUJS, Sumaiya has already begun gaining practical experience. In October 2024, she completed an online internship with KS Elite Attorneys Law Firm. In May 2025 she interned under Advocate Rizwan Ghalib at the Alipore District Court, West Bengal and in June she completed an internship under Advocate Sanjay Mukherjee, Calcutta High Court, which gave her valuable exposure to the workings of legal practice.

Sumaiya’s story is a shining example of the transformative power of education and unwavering determination. Her ambition to create a more equitable society through the legal profession stands as an inspiration to others who dream of overcoming adversity and making a meaningful impact.
