Dikhita Borah was born and brought up in Hatigaon, Guwahati. Following the separation of her parents, she moved with her mother and two sisters to her maternal grandparents’ home in Majgaon, North Guwahati, Assam. Raised in a financially constrained household, Dikhita’s mother earned around INR 5,000 per month working in a private company. To support the family, Dikhita and her sister began giving tuition, together contributing nearly INR 8,000 each month to the household income.
Despite these challenges, Dikhita remained deeply focused on her goal of becoming a lawyer and a voice for her community. Her determination was evident in her daily routine during her CLAT preparation, when she would cross the Brahmaputra river every day, even during heavy rains, to attend training sessions with the IDIA Assam Chapter on the opposite bank.
Bright and exceptionally hardworking, Dikhita performed well throughout her schooling and went on to score 109.75 marks in CLAT 2016. She secured admission to the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, where she pursued her undergraduate legal education from 2016 to 2022. During this period, she also faced a prolonged struggle with depression, which required her to repeat a year. After nearly four years of sustained effort and recovery, she emerged with a renewed perspective on life and purpose.
Reflecting on her journey, Dikhita shares that her childhood experiences, financial hardships, and mental health struggles have shaped her deeply empathetic and change oriented outlook. She believes that a disturbed childhood can have lasting effects and is determined to work for the betterment of children. For her, every child deserves a happy and carefree life, along with opportunities to grow into a healthy and confident adult.
Dikhita went on to complete her LL.M. from the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam in 2024. Outside academics, she enjoys dancing, watching movies, and reading books.
She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the University School of Law and Research, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, where she continues to contribute to legal education and mentorship with a strong sense of social responsibility.
