Dipendra Chettri

Dipendra Chettri is an advocate from Upper Bhaluthang in Geyzing district, Sikkim. He completed his law degree from Sikkim Government Law College, Lower Burtuk, Gangtok, and has since entered the profession with a strong commitment to community-centered legal work.

His decision to study law was shaped by his family’s long-standing land dispute, a case that began when he was in Class V and remains unresolved. Witnessing his father struggle through legal processes from a young age gave him a clear understanding of how complex, inaccessible, and emotionally draining the justice system can be for ordinary citizens. This experience sparked the motivation to pursue law with the intention of helping his own family, and later, others facing similar challenges.

Dipendra comes from a humble background and credits both his academic environment and professional mentors for encouraging him to grow, learn, and develop confidence in litigation. He values the support of peers during his student years and appreciates the guidance and space his seniors have given him in the early years of practice.

Through the fellowship, he hopes to strengthen his professional skills, refine his legal practice, and meaningfully contribute to communities that often go unheard within the justice system. His long-term goal is to continue supporting vulnerable and marginalized individuals, advocate for fair access to legal remedies, and carry forward the spirit of service beyond the fellowship.
