Jais P. Jain is an advocate from Wayanad, Kerala, practicing with a focus on accessible and community-oriented legal work. He completed his B.Com LL.B from Kerala University and has steadily built his practice around issues affecting individuals and families at the grassroots level.
He comes from a hardworking family grounded in simplicity and service. His father is a farmer and his mother is a teacher, and their values shaped his belief in integrity, empathy, and responsibility—principles that guide his approach to the profession.
His interest in law emerged from observing everyday legal challenges faced in his community, including disputes relating to property, employment, consumer rights, and access to essential entitlements. This early exposure helped him identify gaps in legal awareness and representation, and motivated him to pursue litigation with an emphasis on accessibility. Over time, he has engaged with matters related to civil, criminal, family, consumer, and labour law, including legal aid and pro bono work.
Through the fellowship, Jais hopes to deepen his understanding of socially responsive lawyering and to explore both conventional and alternative methods of legal support—such as preventive legal strategies, outreach-based assistance, and structured legal services for vulnerable groups. With the guidance of his mentor, he intends to strengthen his litigation skills, build a rights-based approach, and participate in research, legal aid, and field engagement throughout the fellowship period.
Jais aspires to build a long-term career where litigation and social responsibility work in tandem, ensuring the law functions as a tool of empowerment and meaningful justice for individuals who often remain outside formal legal systems.
