Lahang Limboo is an advocate from Sikkim and a graduate of Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk. His interest in the legal profession began early, shaped by personal experience. When he was in Class VII, his family was involved in a long-standing land dispute. Lacking legal awareness and financial resources, they struggled to navigate the system. His mother would walk to the District Collectorate in Mangan for hearings, often without guidance or support. After years of perseverance, the family eventually won the case—an experience that deeply influenced him and sparked his resolve to pursue law.
This motivation grew further when a Judicial Magistrate visited his school during Class IX and spoke about legal aid. That moment helped him see law not only as a profession but as a way to protect those without resources, support, or legal literacy.
Throughout his legal education, he participated in moot court competitions at both college and national levels, legal aid camps, and internships that strengthened his understanding of how the law functions in practice. These experiences taught him the importance of clarity, research, preparation, and the ability to translate legal knowledge into meaningful solutions for people.
His professional growth has been shaped by courtroom exposure, guidance from mentors, and hands-on experience in drafting, research, and client interaction. The journey included challenges such as balancing academics with personal responsibilities and confronting self-doubt, especially during internships and mooting. Overcoming these difficulties strengthened his discipline, resilience, and confidence.
Through the fellowship, Lahang hopes to contribute to strengthening legal awareness, support marginalized communities, and work on initiatives that expand access to justice. He is particularly interested in outreach, policy engagement, legal literacy, and research addressing barriers faced by minority and underserved groups.
His long-term vision is to continue working at the intersection of litigation, legal aid, and public interest, building a career dedicated to accessibility, inclusion, and equity while supporting the next generation of legal professionals from underrepresented backgrounds.
