Menuka Bardewa

Menuka Bardewa is a law graduate from Sikkim Government Law College and was born and raised in Namphok, South Sikkim. Her motivation to study law is shaped by her lived experience and the social dynamics she observed growing up.

Coming from limited resources, she grew up with an acute awareness of how identity, background, and social perceptions influence the way individuals are treated. These early experiences exposed her to the subtle and persistent nature of discrimination—not always explicit, but often felt through exclusion, undervaluation, and unspoken barriers.

As she matured, these experiences pushed her to question societal systems and eventually led her toward studying law. She became deeply interested in the idea that legal rights exist not only in courtrooms but in everyday life, influencing dignity, equality, and opportunity. The possibility that the law could challenge injustice and strengthen the voice of those who feel unheard inspired her to pursue the profession.

Menuka sees the fellowship as an opportunity to build practical legal skills, leadership, community engagement, and project planning. She hopes to work closely with underserved communities, particularly children who feel discouraged or directionless, and believes that access to justice should be inclusive, compassionate, and rooted in lived realities.

Her long-term goal is to grow into a socially conscious legal professional who uses her experience, training, and voice to support marginalized communities, strengthen legal awareness, and contribute to a more inclusive and just society.
