IDIA Fellowship for Young Lawyers

About the Fellowship

The IDIA Fellowship for Young Lawyers supports junior advocates from Kerala and Sikkim in building sustainable litigation careers. The fellowship is open to lawyers with zero to four years of experience who are permanent residents of these states. Selected fellows will work full time with senior trial court lawyers who have at least ten years of experience, allowing them to gain practical exposure across Munsiff, Magistrate, Subordinate, and District courts.

Fellows will work on litigation matters, legal aid, public interest cases, and collaborations with District Legal Services Authorities and civil society organizations. To ensure stability and growth, the fellowship provides a monthly stipend, foundational training, skill-building workshops, access to legal research databases, and ongoing performance review.

This initiative addresses the lack of mentorship and financial support available to young advocates while strengthening access to justice in underserved communities. It carries forward IDIA’s mission by extending diversity and representation from legal education into the courtroom.
